With a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire range, the Sony 24-70 maintains low-light capability and action-stopping shutter speeds while consistently producing spectacular image quality.  Overall image quality is superb thanks to state of the art optics including an XA (extreme aspherical) element with unheard of surface precision , two aspherical elements, two extra-low dispersion elements, and Nano AR coating reducing surface reflections, flare, ghosting, astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.  The unique 9-blade circular aperture produces a creamy circular bokeh that G Lenses are celebrated for.

The Sony 24-70mm features quiet Direct Drive SSM internal focusing, so only the middle groups of the lens move without changing the overall length of the lens.  With the click of a switch, quickly swap from manual focus to autofocus without taking your eye off your subject and use the on-barrel focus hold to keep the lens locked at your focal distance; especially handy when doing macro work.
